Why Do We Forget Our Previous Life?

By Alec Pittman

Let's face it; the concept of reincarnation is by no means a new idea. In fact, the possibility of having had a past life is something which many people have believed in for thousands of years. The Japanese, the Chinese, the aborigines and many Africans all believe they have had past lives and that those lives can influence the life they're living now.

With regards to reincarnation, it is believed that a past life has a direct impact on your well being and your health in this life, and for that reason it is perhaps advisable that you get to 'know yourself' and that you become familiar with who you were in a past life. Furthermore, in order to become a better and stronger person in this life, one should learn how to integrate all the many strengths which one has accumulated during past lives.

How can you be sure if you've had past lives or not? The truth is, you simply cannot be sure, even though you may have peculiar dreams or disturbing memories when you're awake, that you feel don't belong to you. Interestingly enough, while a vast number of people believe that everyone has had a past life, some basic mathematics shows clearly that this is not the case, and that there must certainly be some new souls. Some other indications to look out for would include:

* A particularly strong attraction to a certain culture that you've not had anything to do with in this life. It for example you're attracted to works of art from the Victorian era, you may have some connection to that era in a past life. In that case you should do some research with regards to the art of that era and if you discover that the art you're attracted to is from a limited time period, then there's a good chance that you've been around before.

* Intense emotions with regards to a specific incident in history could also suggest that you may have been involved in one way or another with that specific event.

* Fears, phobias and allergies can also sometimes be a good indicator with regards to past life experiences, particularly if they cannot be connected to your childhood years.

Those indicators which have been mentioned above are just a few of the possible indicators you may or may not experience. However, even if you do experience one or more of the above, you shouldn't necessarily take it for granted that you're remembering a past life. Instead, you should look for patterns and similarities between things which attract you for no apparent reason. Providing you follow this approach you may soon start to notice a pattern forming and when you do, you will be in a better position to put the pieces together.

Additionally, it is possible to gain an insight into past lives by means of hypnosis or self hypnosis if you prefer. In fact there are many past life regression therapists who specialize in this field and for that reason it may be in your own best interest to arrange for a meeting with such a therapist.

If you would rather use self hypnosis in order to investigate your past life or lives, then you should ultimately be looking for a technique which also doubles as a method for deep relaxation. Before you actually go ahead and use this technique for regression purposes, first spend a little bit of time becoming familiar with the technique.

From a safety point of view, there is essentially nothing you need to worry about because you'll simply be experiencing a vivid recollection of a past life experience or experiences. In fact, rather than experiencing an intense recollection, you may experience nothing more than a few feelings.

Furthermore, while good memories will result in good feelings, bad memories will result in bad feelings, much the same as you experience after a bad dream. Just as with a bad dream, you'll tend to wake up feeling uneasy but at the same time you need to bear in mind that any unpleasant memories are also an important part of regression.

The all important issue here is that you actually remember something from a past life so that you can then move on. Remember, when the subconscious mind is suppressed, only then can these memories lead to further problems. By having the ability to understand and to accept what has happened in a past life, you'll be able to experience this live from a different perspective.

As is mentioned in the theory of karma, if you lead a good life and you do good deeds then you can expect to receive good things in return. On the other hand, if you live the life of a bad person and you do bad deeds, then you can expect your life to be filled with problems and much unhappiness. You need to bear in mind that if you have of bad karma, it will stay that way until such time you strike a balance between good and bad.

Unfortunately, there still seems to be a great deal of confusion with regards to this interpretation. Unlike some choose to believe, you are not doomed to a life of misery simply because of your actions in a past life. Each time you are born into a new life you once again have the chance to do things in such a way so as to attract good karma. Of course once you reach the stage where you're aware of the fact that a certain memory is from a past life, and that it doesn't necessarily mean you're a bad person, you can then live happily in the knowledge that this life can be great.
