The Complexities Of Being An Employment Agent

By Justine Collins

The task of an employment agent is to search for jobs for jobseekers. But it's not as simple as how it is stated. An agent faces some hard challenges in his job which have been hardly known by many.

Here's how an employment agent does his job:

Getting To Know The Applicant

When a jobseeker inquires about some suitable jobs for him, the agent hands the applicant a lengthy questionnaire to fill in. He will take a peek on the application and then start an interview with the applicant.

In the interview, the employment agent asks the applicant concerning the specific job he's looking for, his skills, weaknesses and strengths, and his expected earnings. The agent has to know the jobseeker's character and skills to market him well to potential employers.

The Employment Agent As A Salesperson Too

The higher level of hardship comes after the one-on-one discussion with the agent. He looks for and contacts companies with accessible jobs that match with what the applicant is looking for. The agent then tries to "sell" the applicant to the potential employers. The agent shouldn't just make an attempt to sell the job candidate; the company must "buy" the applicant at the same time. Surely, this isn't an easy job to do.

In the event the company wills to invite the job candidate for a job interview, the agent calls up the applicant to brief him about everything he must know or do. The agent should prepare the applicant on everything he needs to do in the interview. He helps the applicant to get organized and be able to create a good impression to his prospective employer.

The Hardest Part Of Being An Employment Agent

Having the applicant invited for a job interview does not guarantee that the prospective employer will hire him. The jobseeker need to first get and accept a formal job offer. When this happens, the agent then will get his commission.

This fact reveals that an employment agent's job is actually tough. Most of them work on a commission basis and for this, they can either make a lot of money for all the jobs well done, or get wasted for all their unfruitful efforts of trying to find jobs for applicants.

An All In All Take On An Employment Agent's Job

An employment agent's job is certainly not for anyone. For those who wish to work as an agent, they must have excellent communication capabilities and enough perseverance. Good results in this job relies highly on the combination of these two characteristics. Aspiring agents who don't have this combination of traits will have a difficulty making it to the job.
