Vaporization Preferable Than Inhaled Marijuana Smoke

By Robert McGregor

Inhaling marijuana smoke is the quickest way to enjoy the benefits of this drug. But that method can destroy your lungs.

Studies show that 95 percent of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC (the main psychoactive substance of marijuana) enter the bloodstream in the first few seconds of inhaling. If you continue, your body absorbs tar and other harmful chemicals that can irritate the throat and the lungs, and cause cancer later.

However, researchers have devised a way to prevent this. The answer lies in vaporization which can stop the bad effects of smoked marijuana. How is this so? Unlike cigarette smoking that produces combustion, vaporizers heat up the plant until the active ingredients turn to vapor. Since the plant isn't burned, this diminishes the absorption of toxic chemicals. This means vaporization is a smart and healthy way of utilizing marijuana.

Without combustion, there are no toxic chemicals that can irritate the throat and lungs, and cause serious health problems later. You inhale the beneficial active ingredients of marijuana without suffering from the ill effects of smoking. Tests made by California NORML and the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies show that vaporizers can quickly deliver marijuana's active ingredients to the body without harmful toxins like polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons which are believed to cause cancer.

Burning the plant releases these toxins - the reason why smoking marijuana is a bad move. Although the connection between marijuana and cancer has not been conclusively proven, it's known that smoking marijuana can make a person susceptible to bronchitis and respiratory problems.

In 2006, Leiden University researchers showed that these problems can be stopped with the use of vaporizers. This device is known as a safe and effective herbal delivery system and should be used by patients. They added that vaporization is similar to smoking with none of the latter's bad effects.
